Ways to Import into PSP and Use a Transparent .gif in a new image

Requirements for this lesson

Right Click on images below and save for use in the lesson and also use some of your own transparent .gifs

Method 1

  1. Open the gif in PSP
  2. Image>Pallette>View Transparency
  3. Magic Wand>Mode Replace; Match Mode RGB Value; Tolerence 0; Use All Layers and Contiguous Unchecked; Feather 0; Antialias Checked; Inside> And click on an area of background.
  4. Selections>Invert
  5. Selections>Promote Selection to a layer.
  6. Now you can Copy and Paste this layer onto your image with a transparent background.

Method 2

  1. Open both PSP and Animation shop - Maximise PSP and Minimise Animation Shop.
  2. Open the .gif transparent file in PSP Animation Shop (came intergrated in PSP7 but now sold as a separate stand alone program)where it will appear with a Transparent background.
  3. Either - Left Click Image and Drag and drop it into PSP - Or - Right click on the image in Animation Shop and copy then activate PSP and right click on the workspace and paste as new image where it will now appear with the transparent background.
  4. Magic Wand>Mode Replace; Match Mode RGB Value; Tolerence 0; Use All Layers and Contiguous Unchecked; Feather 0; Antialias Checked; Inside> And click on an area of background.
  5. Duplicate the image by clicking on Shift + D
  6. Close out the original thus preserving it in original condition.
